		Who is a member?

What's In It For Housing Providers

Housing providers join the scheme on a voluntary basis. Some played an important supporting role when the Codes were first conceived. The membership now includes most of the major providers in the sector together with many smaller specialist providers.

At the outset being able to badge themselves as a Code member signalled that landlords met a nationally recognised set of standards, which gave them a competitive edge. Over time, the success of the Codes in attracting new members now means that not being a member or not meeting the Code’s standards is a commercial disadvantage. For sound business reasons then landlords want to be Code members.

Providers also like the certainty that a fixed frame of reference gives them in terms of contractual issues, repair timescales, deposit arrangements etc – being able to say to tenants “We’re operating in accordance with National Code standards” is helpful in following good practice standards and minimises problems and complaints and the time spent on handling them.
